Bob Owens has more guts than I do

My poor wife must think I'm insane. Maybe I am. I've been on the internet since before we called it "internet". Back then it was just Usenet newsgroups and private BBS forums. Email was clunky, awkward, and not worth the effort. In those days the USPS was more reliable and cheaper.

Starting two or three years before 9/11, I began to notice a disturbing trend toward factionalism. The still small and eccentric Usenet world was clearly falling out into two camps. At the time, I had no real name for them. One group favored socialism, social justice, social responsibility, and "democracy", although they seemed to use a different definition for it than I did. The other group favored freedom, individualism, as little government as possible, and a society as close to anarchy as we could get without completely unraveling. I thought both groups were crazy, but in the days and weeks immediately before 9/11 true free-thinking individualism seemed to have vanished entirely in favor of one group or the other. There were far too many days when I found myself deep into a flame war with both groups. Days like that left me wondering how on earth I had managed to anger two such complete opposites.

The internet arrived at a very odd time socially. Ruby Ridge in 1992 was quickly followed by Waco in 1993, then OKC in 1995. Into the midst of this great social upheaval came the fastest, most complete, most effective communication network ever devised and it was available to anybody who could afford a connection. For five years (1996-2001) I watched in horror as people from all walks of life argued, fought, and worked themselves into a frenzy. I could feel a civil war bubbling up through the wires and felt powerless to do anything about it.

So I came up with a crazy plan. I concocted a science fiction alias named John Titor and began making posts warning of a civil war in 2005. Others took up the alias and made their own posts and before I realized what I'd done there were dozens, maybe hundreds of people from all over the globe who had taken up the theme and were claiming to be time travelers. John Titor had become a global phenomenon.

Then came 9/11, followed by Madrid and London and the world really was at war. Americans came together, Europeans fell apart, and I breathed a sigh of relief. No civil war and no sign of a civil war. I was not happy to see us fighting two wars at the same time, but I was very, very pleased that my John Titor predictions had failed.

Unfortunately, that was not the end of the story. As the "war on terror" began winding down and the internet became even better than it already was, those old divisions from the '90s began to reassert themselves. It is much harder now to pull off a "John Titor" kind of hoax, much easier to pull off something like "Anonymous" or "Wikileaks" (neither of which I'm associated with, by the way). Overall, this is a good thing. Unfortunately, it also means we in America are again choosing up sides and blasting out vitriol at anyone who disagrees with us. The one side simply wants the government to leave them alone and let them get on with their lives, the other side wants the government to keep the first group in line, tax them into non-existence, take away their firearms, and lock them up in prison for opposing the "enlightened" and "progressive" agenda of the "intellectuals".

For about a year now, but most especially since the November election, I have wanted to write a post. Instead of playing John Titor, I wanted to list up the events that absolutely will take place if we continue along the current trajectory. The only real evidence I have for this theory is understanding a bit about pre-WWII Germany and Japan, the creation of the Soviet Union, and memories of living through the last two decades of the Cold War. I see history repeating itself in the streets, discussion forums, and social networking sites of the internet. Some of these arguments are word for word identical to arguments in the opinion pages of national newspapers during those periods of history. The divisiveness, the anger, the demands for freedom versus the demands for "rational controls", with both sides claiming "common sense" as their strongest evidence.

I'm the guy who dreamed up John Titor. I'm supposed to be the crazy one! So why does the whole nation look insane to me?

Anyway, all of that aside, this is the real reason for today's post. Someone with more guts than I have is seeing the same trajectory with the same endgame. It's not some conspiracy backed by Freemasons, or the Illuminati, or "evil bankers". No. Just the opposite, in fact. The real problem is YOU, whoever you are, whatever you do, sitting there reading this crazy man's claim to have authored the single greatest internet hoax in history. You are the problem.

The good news is there is something you can do about it. It is a very hard thing, but until you change we will continue right down this path until it explodes in bloodshed and chaos only to end in complete, total tyranny. You can stop the civil war from ever arriving, but you have to decide to do it. Here is how:

1. Stop relying on the news media, do your own research
2. Stop using credit cards, car loans, and double mortgages
3. Save a little money, buy some silver and if you can afford it, some gold
4. Plant as much of your own fruit and vegetables as you can, use heirloom varieties
5. Love your family, accept your crazy friends for who they are, stop arguing
6. Learn the difference between right and wrong and realize why they exist
7. Accept that someday you will get old and die
8. Remember, there are evil people in the world who will hurt you if they can
9. Last, most important of all, stop blaming others for your problems and stop depending on someone else to solve your problems for you

I am not optimistic. I remain convinced that the past decade was an anomaly. Now that the "war on terror" is closing down, terrorism itself is about to raise up its ugly head and explode onto the world stage again. There will be another 9/11 style attack. It is not a matter of "if". It is strictly a question of "when". These people are dedicated, fanatic, and intelligent. Sooner or later they will succeed. Likewise, there will be another mass shooting. Crazy people are not going to suddenly become sane just because you treat them well. Sooner or later one of those crazy people will go out and kill dozens, maybe hundreds of people. There has never been a moment in human history when we did not have both terrorists and crazy people. They have been with us from the beginning. They will be with us right up until the day we go extinct. There is no golden past, no golden present, and there will not be a golden future. No, it isn't pretty, but it is real.

In closing, here is a link to Bob Owens' blog post: What you'll see in the rebellion.

This rebellion is coming. It has been trying to break out ever since Ronald Reagan won his re-election by a landslide. It will probably come very soon, possibly as soon as the winter of 2014-2015. It will be bloody. Millions of good, honest, ordinary men and women will die.

Unless you change. Changing your life by becoming more self-sufficient will not only make you happier, it will help delay the coming Second American Civil War. If enough of you change, it might even prevent it altogether.

Update: January 5, 2013

Bob Owens has another important post today: Of Alarms, Militias, and Destiny
The NRA-ILA has a list of Congressional bills coming out on Jan. 22: First Wave of Anti-gun Bills

This is going to get bloody. People are going to be dying in their homes and on the streets. If you work in law enforcement you must decide now if you are willing to sacrifice your life in order to enforce these laws and you must write to your representatives in the House of Representatives and the Senate to let them know. It might be the only way to prevent these bills from becoming law.

If you're not already a "Doomsday Prepper" now is the time to become one. You have just about three months to get ready, maybe six.

I've been wondering the heck Eric Holder has been doing because he sure as heck hasn't been investigating Fast and Furious. I guess now I know.
