Fading hopes as darkness descends

A long, long time ago, I worked hard in my local community and helped get Ronald Reagan elected to the presidency. There were two reasons for this: he promised to decrease the size and power of the Federal government and he promised to either dramatically restrict the power of the United Nations or withdraw from it entirely.

Ronald Reagan made a lot of mistakes, and near the end, he went a little senile. But you know, that's okay. Under his presidency the United Nations was forced to backtrack on many of their intended goals while dozens of attempts to curtail the freedoms promised by the U.S. Constitution were either blocked or sidetracked. At one point, he even reduced the amount of American tax dollars that went into supporting the United Nations.

Neither Barack Obama nor John McCain has promised to do the same.

Don't get me wrong. I fully support the creation of a Global Government. Yes, I am 100% behind the creation of a One-World Government, One-World Economy, and One-World Culture. However, I want that Global Society to be a place where the rights of the individual are protected, government exists to serve the public, and the only special interests with any influence are those backed by millions of voting adults.

I don't believe that is the direction we are headed. I believe that this time, for perhaps the first time in history, the conspiracy theorists are right. The Global Government that will exist within the next five years will be a facist, or perhaps a socialist democracy, ruled not by popular vote, but by the dictates and media-based influence of a select group of very rich families whose sole concern is their own comfort and survival.

It's been a nice experiment, but unless the next American president and his congress stands up to the monolithic United Nations, democracy in our world will be dead by 2012.
