Horrific video emerges of bus attack

This video showed up in my Facebook newsfeed. I can confirm neither the date nor the location. However, most reports have it occurring in Paris on August 2, 2016. I have yet to see it reported on CNNj. As of this writing, it has not appeared on any of the online news sites I normally use. Clearly, it did occur. The bus is a fairly modern version, the neighborhood is a modern city.

I first began warning of these kinds of attacks in March 2009 (Brian's Meandering Mind: A Deadly, Persistent Swarm of Gnats). I can no longer even count how many of these attacks we have seen. They have occurred in Paris, in San Bernardino, in Orlando, in Kabul, and dozens of other cities throughout the world. This kind of attack is becoming an almost daily occurrence. As I have said over and over again, there is only one way to effectively stop these attacks: an armed and trained populace.

There are many people around the world who are sympathetic to the goals of ISIS, Hamas, Boko Haram, and all of the other radical Islamic terror groups. There are approximately 1.8 billion Muslims in our world and if only 2% of them are sympathetic to the goals of the terrorists then the terrorists have the second largest standing army in the world. In addition, there are millions of non-Muslims who for a variety of reasons admire and respect the terrorists, comparing them to historic revolutionaries in the United States, France, Russia, China, and Rhodesia.

Let that sink in. Think about it. The second largest standing army in the world. There are at least 36 million potential Muslim and non-Muslim terrorists living right now in every big city, small town, isolated village, and rural neighborhood in the world. The internet has bound the world together in ways that benefit billions of entrepreneurs, educators, charities, and everyday people. The most common electronic appliance in the world is a smart phone. Somewhere around 2 billion people carry smartphones capable of connecting to the internet and communicating with anyone who has an internet connection. This is a very good thing. However, like any technology, it can be used by criminals and terrorists just as easily as it can by honest people. Good people are using the internet everyday to make their lives easier and more enjoyable. At the same time, criminals and terrorists are using the internet to recruit the gullible, organize global logistics, and plan their next action. This is not going to change. It is going to become more and more common as the internet becomes more and more useful.

Sooner or later, in your hometown, armed terrorists are going to storm the building where you work, the shopping center where you buy your daily goods, a sporting event you have spent weeks waiting to attend, or a concert by your favorite band. One person, three people, or even a dozen, when armed with ordinary handguns, rifles, and homemade explosives, can create an unimaginable amount of death and destruction in a very short time. We have seen this clearly in France on multiple occasions over the past two years. The tighter France locks itself down, the more militarized its police force becomes, and the harder it is for ordinary citizens to defend themselves, the more frequently these attacks occur. The French government is doing everything recommended by every expert on the planet and all it has achieved is to place France second only to Iraq in terms of the sheer numbers of people killed by terrorists over the past two years.

Back in the 1960s, when radical Islamic terror was born and first began developing swarm techniques, Israel suffered multiple terror attacks on a daily basis. Every single day dozens of Israelis were dying in small attacks around the country. In response, Israel did exactly what all the experts recommended. They built walls, they militarized their police force, they increased police presence, and still the attacks grew more bloody and more frequent. So Israel developed a concealed carry program for ordinary citizens alongside an open carry program for certain groups of people. Handguns and assault rifles became fashion accessories almost overnight. People added shiny pocket pistols to their evening gowns, carried semi-automatic handguns in their backpacks, and came up with colorful decorative patterns for the rifles slung over their shoulders when they went to the park or went shopping. In a matter of months, swarm attacks stopped completely. Israel has now become one of the safest places in the world to live, despite the presence of two terrorist armies on her borders.

In 1973, at the Munich Olympics, the terrorists took their campaign global. Half a century later we now have so many organized terror groups around the world that nobody, not even Mossad, the CIA, and MI-5, know exactly how many there are. New groups, using the internet to recruit and organize, are forming almost everyday. Friends meet in college where they learn they share a common hatred of the modern world and a longing for the simplicity of a Shari'a based society. Then, a few years later, they walk into a Paris concert hall together and slaughter over a hundred people. This is never going to end. It is going to continue for decades, possibly for centuries. There have always been, and there will always be, discontented men and women looking for some means to strike out against society at large. Sometimes they form organized crime families and sometimes they form terrorist groups. Sometimes the crime families and terrorist groups join forces to form revolutionary armies.

Now, more than ever before, we need ordinary, everyday people to have the freedom to learn how to use firearms effectively and then to carry a firearm with them everywhere they go. Pacifism is a wonderful philosophy that should always be encouraged, but we must not shackle and restrict the ordinary warriors and heroes willing to respond to a bad situation and bring it immediately to an end. Police are responsible for analyzing the results of crime after it occurs, then hunting down and capturing the criminals. A military is responsible for defending a nation against attack, or attacking another nation which has become a threat. However, neither force can be everywhere all the time. Ordinary people have to be prepared, equipped, and willing to defend their own lives. Yes, even in the modern world!

Human nature does not change. There will always be criminals and terrorists. Given the chance, these two groups will then go on to join forces and become revolutionary armies. The only possible way to counter this process and cut it off at the source is to empower ordinary citizens to protect themselves because dead criminals cannot form gangs, terror groups, or revolutionary armies. No, I am not saying ordinary citizens should be hunting down criminals and murdering the murderers. Of course not! However, when a crime is committed, the first person on the scene is the victim. If the victim kills or wounds the criminal, then the crime is stopped and the criminal is unlikely to continue down the path to gangster, terrorist, or revolutionary.

A trained, armed populace will neither stop nor prevent all crime and terror. There can be no utopia because humans will always be humans and some humans will always become criminals or terrorists. However, an armed and trained populace will minimize the opportunities of criminals and terrorists to work their trade. Minimizing the amount of evil in the world is the most realistic goal any society can have. To achieve that goal, we must have a police force, a military, and an armed populace. It is only when these three work hand-in-hand that the violence and destruction of evil men and women can be minimized.
